The defense lawyer stated he would attempt to have the proceedings dismissed for multiple causes including that his the accused, a detractor of former President Trump, was being singled out.

The former director was charged just days after the former president urged his attorney general to take action against him.

Legal Proceedings

At the proceedings on mid-week, the defense counsel Mr Fitzgerald advised the judge they aimed to present several motions to terminate the proceedings before a legal hearing, stating the legal action was spiteful and that a federal prosecutor was unlawfully appointed to take over the proceedings.

James Comey's case was originally managed by Erik Siebert, who left his position under pressure from Trump after his examination into another opponent - NY AG Letitia James - failed to bring criminal charges.

Legal Setting

James Comey seemed in positive mood as he came into the court on mid-week, speaking with his lawyers and being lighthearted. He was supported by his wife, Mrs Failor and child his daughter, a US lawyer who the previous administration dismissed.

They claim he provided false information to the legislative body by claiming he had not approved a person at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to leak to media organizations information about the FBI investigations.

Prosecutors also allege the defendant of "improperly attempting to influence, hinder and delay" the legislative group by making false statements to it.
