Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
