The Two Sergeants Moments Prior to the Aggressor Was Tasered

A senior officer who rushed to the aid of a partner that got attacked by a blade-wielder has been awarded the King's Commendation for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-yr-old Jacob Brown following he held a knife to the neck of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their colleague, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver after a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in July 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.

"Officer stabbed," the constable stated over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashcam recording released by the agency depicted Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood up, run up to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife pointed forward.

He collided with the policeman who tripped and went down to the ground, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the ground despite being repeatedly struck with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a open target, concluding the confrontation to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "Please provide help on my throat here, I'm bleeding in the neck."

Sergeant Ansell received multiple deep cuts to his throat and further wounds to his arms and torso, while Sergeant Foster suffered slash wounds.

Authorities stated Sgt Foster employed his hands to stop his partner's blood loss before emergency responders came.

The latest award comes after the law enforcement team won departmental Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the police federation award from the area union branch in spring 2024.

They further earned a Regional Bravery Award in summer 2024.

"The efforts of all three officers eventually protected each other and ensured no bystanders suffered any injuries."

Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, per the department.
